Working in radio is great fun for me because I get to talk with you.  I've work in the entertainment business since I was six! --in TV, theatre, movies, sung in clubs, even on an Armed Forces Tour - those men and women are my heroes!   Oh, did I tell you I was even the voice of Barbie - in two movies!  I've lived and worked in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, West Palm Beach and here.
Sports - hockey, hockey, hockey and basketball.  Married - since dinosaurs roamed the earth ... haha -it feels that  way, and I have a teenage son, who is constantly teaching me about the world.  And yes, I love the music we play on 102.9.  So thanks for listening.

My top ten list of why we love to live in the Raleigh area:

Wonderful people
Great weather with moderate seasons
Lively art and music scene
Fantastic restaurants
Incredible colleges
Really, really good college sports
Good home values
Great outdoor places to go and enjoy - like parks, greenways and lakes
Local hockey and baseball teams that you can afford to see!

And My Number 1 reason ...
102.9!

Can you add to this list?  Email me and let me know!

Here's some great farmers markets:

The big Daddy of them all is the North Carolina State Farmers Market, open pretty much all week.  I love it for flowers (I took the pic above there) and all the fresh produce.

In Morrisville

Cary's Farmers Market

Holly Springs

Other things to do:

If you are planning a trip in and around North Carolina this summer, check out this list of county fairs.

Love art?  Take some time to check out the newly redesigned  N.C Museum of Art .  Its a wonderful place to take friends, have lunch and take in some incredible art!  Check out their webpage.

The
Nasher Museum of Art in Durham is a wonderful place to spend a few quiet hours.

Here's a link for the
North Carolina Symphony, always interesting programs.

Museum of Life and Science in Raleigh ... your kids will love it (so will you.)

Try visiting the
North Carolina Museum of History.  Its a great way to spend the day - only steps away from the State Capital.

If your kids are into skateboarding and inline skating, check out
this link for a great skate park in Cary.

Jordan Lake is a great place to get back to nature ... you can fish, hike, swim , boat, even watch bald eagles!

There are lots of other great parks with lakes in our area, too.  Try Lake Johnson 4601 Avent Ferry Rd in West Raleigh and Lake Wheeler 6404 Lake Wheeler Rd in Raleigh.  You can fish, boat, water ski, and sail there.  There's also Shelley Lake at 1400 W Millbrook Rd which has paved trails around the lake and a playground near the Sertoma Arts Center.  Pullen Park is also a wonderful place to spend a sunny day - complete with a playground, picnic shelters, train ride and carousel.  Chavis Park at 505 MLK Jr Blvd also has a carousel.  And if you want wide open spaces, try the 237 acres offered at Durant Nature Park in North Raleigh.  My personal favorite is Sarah P Duke Gardens in Durham.  I have spent many hours there looking at the wonderful plants and flowers.
And finally Fred P Bond Park in Cary.  There are so many parks in our area, these were just a few.  I am sure you have your favorites.  Let me know what they are and I will try to include them here.

Here's a great way to do a 'staycation'.  Tour historical sites in North Carolina.

I have seen such wonderful performances at
this venue ... like one of my personal favorites, Bryan Adams.

Ever wonder how long certain foods will last, whether you can eat them past their expiration date, how to store them, etc.  There's some really good tips and other food related matters on this website, here's the link:

Neat websites for you to check out:

When your friends send you those 'hard to believe' emails, check this site to see if its real or an urban legend: www.snopes.com

If you like to cook:  www.epicurious.com and www.allrecipes.com

I love this site when checking flights: www.flightstats.com

I love playing games, online, but I don't like paying for them.  As you probably know, research suggests it helps your brain.  Anyway, I just found a neat site: you play games on line, they sell adds and they give money to charities.  How cool is that?  Here's the link.

If you like to get discounts, try this
coupon website for all kinds of retail companies.

Click here for a good place to look at some different kinds of gifts ....

This is one of the funniest gift sites I have come across ... crazy stuff on it ... like: a lego USB flash drive, a knife block holder that looks like a human (good for any of your friends going through a divorce), bandages that look like cupcakes ... and the one I really like: a light weight digital camera that you clip to your pets collar which records what they do, when you are not there.  Check it out here.

Check out Despair Inc. suggested by Paul, a Y102.9 listener.  Its a motivational website, except its really twisted.  You, for sure, will get a laugh at this website.

If you like to give back to your community and literally change lives, check out
Genesis Home in Durham.  They help young adults and families overcome homelessness.  By the way, it's a great place to take your teenager to do community service, because the experience will stay with them for life!

Let's Get Healthy:

A study by the University of Georgia has shown plants can improve your indoor air quality.

The study took 28 plants and put them in jars with the pollutants we run into on a daily basis like building materials, cleaning products, paints, and fragrances.  A mere six hours later all the plants had improved the air quality.  Here's the top five air cleaners:

Asparagus fern, English Ivy, Purple Waffle Plant, Purple Heart Plant, Variegate Wax Plant

I love this new website from the USDA ... you can pretty much look up any food and get its food group from the food pyramid plus calorie content.  Try it out by clicking here.

Ok, I know a lot of us are working on losing weight, toning up, and getting healthy but lack motivation ... I just stumbled on this website; it's FREE!  It's an online weight loss community that not only will help motivate you, it will do the work of tracking your food intake, your workouts, and a lot more!  Plus, you can hook up with an online buddy to keep you inspired.  Check it out
here, I think you will love it!

I am a fan of being healthy.  That's not to say I don't eat junk food -and yes, I constantly work at losing those extra ten pounds- but good health is important to me and hopefully to you too.  Check out this article in Prevention. They have some great tips on extending your life so you can listen to Y102.9 longer!

Here's some ideas for kid's lunches but they don't have to be kid lunches - you can bring them to work, too ... just remember to keep everything in a cooler!

Try home made sub sandwiches, or turkey cheddar wraps.  Chicken nuggets can be kept warm in a thermos, put some hummus or cream cheese on mini bagels and for snacks, how about some string cheese or whole grain pretzels.  Apples are a quick and filling pick-me-up. To drink ... water, its simple ... with no calories and its healthy!

Girlfriends … if you are like me, it’s sometimes difficult figuring out what colors work with your skin tone or hair color.  Here's some help.   Fashion experts suggest that four colors work on every woman.  They are:

-Indian Teal (that’s a blue to you and me!)
-True Red (love the vibrancy of this color...)
-Mellow Rose (which is like a dusty pink)
-Eggplant (dark shade of purple, yes, like the vegetable)

Try them out and let me know how you like them!

According to Netscape, the top/most common passwords people use: "password", 123 or 12345, city or town name, ''let me in'', "qwerty" (look at the top row of your keyboard), your name, your favorite sports team, your birthdate, or your kids names.  And get this ... the person most likely to hack into your computer is a friend or family member!  HEY get off my computer!!!!  LOL.

Ever wonder what those instant message, Twitter, and Facebook abbreviations mean?  Here's a small dictionary for you:

LOL - laughing out loud * ROLF - rolling on the floor laughing * BRB - be right back * TTYL - talk to you later * OMG - oh my gawd * UG2BK - you got to be kidding * WRUD - what are you doing * and if you are at work or around the kids, NSFW - not safe for work (could be embarrassing)

Email me and let me know what your favorite is!
